End of the Quarter

What usually happens at the end of each quarter is selling. All the institutional investment companies sell their positions to lock in gains, or to limit losses. This always happens at the end of every quarter.

There is no reason to make major investment decisions around the end of a calendar quarter. There is another term for this called "Window Dressing" which is where these institutional investors change their portfolios for reporting purposes. A lot of funds have Semi-Annual Reports that come out based on a June 30th date. Mutual fund companies in particular, do not want to disclose their full positions to be copied by others, so they change their positions to generic holdings to hide their true holdings. This has been going on for as long as I can remember.

There is a lot that goes into investment decision making and most people do not realize all the intricacies involved. The best thing you can do is hire a professional to make all these buy and sell decisions for you. They do it everyday and they are truly professionals.
